What is Bio- Spicule Therapy?

Bio-spicule therapy uses naturally derived sponges, microscopic, needle-like structures which rejuvenate the skin without the need for invasive treatment. These spicules and tiny so they can penetrate the skin without causing damage. This serves as a gentle exfoliator and a way to stimulate collagen and elastin. Bristol Skin Clinic is one of only a few clinics in Bristol and South West providing Bio-Spicule Therapy for their clients.

Who Would Benefit from This Treatment?

What Does the Treatment Feel Like?

This treatment will feel like sharp needles being rubbed into the skin, the feeling is slightly uncomfortable, similar to a strong exfoliating scrub and it may feel prickly for up to around 3 days after treatment, this is all perfectly normal and will subside at around day 4.

How will it Feel After Treatment?

Your skin will look red/pink immediately after treatment. For 2 days your skin may feel warm and a bit spikey to the touch. Some clients get a mild peel after 3-4 days which is all part of the process for skin cell renewal. Full results can be seen in a little as 7 days.

How many treatments do I need?

The Bio-Spicule Therapy Treatment is most effective after 3 sessions, taken 3-4 weeks apart for best results. This depends on what skin concern is being treated and your Practitioner will advise you accordingly.

The Science Bit!

Bio-Spicule therapy is similar to microneedling, creating microchannels in the epidermis. This creates a wound healing response particularly good for promoting collagen and elastin, these are the key proteins for skin integrity and elasticity. The spicules are able to penetrate the epidermis creating precise micro-channels which is minimally invasive to the skin, then our in-built body’s tissue mechanism goes into repair mode to regenerate the treated area. Following any form of micro-injury, the skin cells become stimulated, fibroblasts respond by migrating to the injury site, then over time, the skin undergoes tissue remodelling, introducing new fresh collagen and elastin fibres to replace sun damaged and aged tissue, resulting in visible improvements including a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, melasma, scarring, pigmentation, tone and texture and much more.

Skin cell renewal would usually take from 28 days upwards depending on age, with Bio-Spicule Therapy is takes just 7 days.
